I’m an oil painter who became interested in the craft of the materials. From 2002-2022 I documented paintings and their craft on a website, also publishing a book, Living Craft, about the materials from 2011-2019. The website is now reproduced as a fully-functional mirror thanks to the kind auspices of Philippe Masson. The last edition of Living Craft is also available on the site as a free PDF download. While there are formulas on the website, there are many more in the book and they are more evolved. The website does contain a good overview of the craft of hand-refined oil, including a free PDF about oil refining in English (link), French and Russian, with many process pictures. But again, the book contains further information about this, including many details and variations on the unique and highly effective emulsion refining method invented by Dr. Roland Greimers. The brighter colour and varied rheological effects of emulsion mediums are also focal of the more recent paintings documented on this page. On this site I’ll be uploading further articles about various aspects of the craft.

La peinture et le dessin sont des activités normalement épanouissantes et il est dramatique que le système éducatif français les ait transformées en disciplines théoriques assaisonnées de critères de tous ordres asservis à des savoirs littéraires car cela a pour effet tragique d’aliéner les enfants aux sensibles et à l’apprentissage à s’orienter en fonction de ce qu’on aime qui constitue de fait le seul moyen pour une personne d’orienter sa vie vers le bonheur.

Le résutlat est de conduire des générations non seulement à ne pas apprécier ces pratiques voire à les détester mais surtout qui, n’ayant aucune idée de ce qu’elles aiment se retrouvent à l’âge adulte complètement incapables de s’orienter dans la vie car n’ayant aucun moyen de savoir ce qu’elles pourraient aimer faire.
